Fibre-Reinforced Concrete
Fibre-Reinforced Concrete
Fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) is concrete containing fibrous material which increases its structural integrity. It contains short discrete fibers that are uniformly distributed and randomly oriented throughout the mix, as a subsitute for traditional reinforcing mesh or bar.
Safari Group supplies both synthetic and steel fibres which are used in Fibre Reinforced Concrete. The fibres are generally incorporated into the mix at the concrete batch plant, saving time on site.
As a general rule, Steel fibers have a high modulus and a high resistance in traction, which means they are not effective against cracks, while the synthetic fibers have a low Young modulus ranging between 3 and 5GPa and are reactive to potential cracks at an early stage.
