Reinforcing bar (known as reo bar or re-bar) is a ‘ribbed’ steel bar placed in concrete to provide tensile strength and prevent cracking. In Australia, the most common reinforcing bar used is standard N grade, 500 MPa deformed bar (D500N).

The steel reinforcement required in a concrete structure such as a suspended slab, beam, column or wall will be specified within the engineering drawings for the structure.
